Inside-Out: Reflections on the Public & the Private Realm
Can real space be captured in the way that it is perceived by its inhabitants? The project examines the domestic, public and private spaces that we inhabit and our perception of the boundaries, these spaces represent and impose. The focus is placed on constructing a sequence of spatial experiences and a particular atmosphere of the space. The modern perception is a montage of rapidly evolving experiences which blur the distinction between the real and the fictional, the urban and the interior. An exterior texture has infiltrated the interior space.
Nested Ecologies - Towards Dynamic Oasis Urbanism 2012
The RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship ’12 Proposal
This is Dimitar’s proposal for The RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship 2012.
An oasis is not only the most concentrated area of human activity in an arid area but also the largest area where artificial disturbances occur at a regional scale. The study of oasis urban expansion and related factors is important to understand the development of cities in arid areas, guide the evolution of rational urban expansion and promote sustainable development of oasis cities. I am interested in exploring how the oases relate with the existing settlements: the overlapped, where the oases merge with the city; the patterned oases; and the contained, where the oases define the clear border of a settlement.

“Recreated Details” – Photo Exhibition April 2011
Dimitar Dobrev is a passionate photographer and student of architecture at the AA in London. He has always been interested in absorbing the social life through architectural and photographic experimentations. After participating in various photography contests, Dimitar Dobrev reveals some of his photographs in his first individual exhibition entitled "Recreated Details" at the Union of Architects in Bulgaria. The exhibition presents portraits and snapshots, capturing his travels across the world. From the desert dunes of the emirates, through Istanbul to India, this unique collection documents a spectrum of contrasts between the hidden beauty of the built environment and the ambiguity of the social street life.
